Session 17 – Betrayal
Icy winds are howling around Dhaab 2 when our Misfits and Moses are waking up.
Exchausted, cold and numb. I was miserable when i got up. At first silence but slowly the howling of the blizzard was everywhere in the base. Everyone made an effort to sleep. But i don’t know for sure if everyone was able to rest. First i looked outside. The visibility was somehow better. But the blizzard did not slow down. Khaydr, Moses were already up. But then Shamus. Those nannites did hurt him. He started rambling like a 5 year old toddler. Had no mind of his own. Thankfully Coffee worked and Shamus regained some focus.
When I woke up I still heard the wind hauling around Dhaab 2. I looked at Armand. He looked like he had a rough night. Anxiously I also looked at Shamus. Still sleeping like a baby. I wondered how the nannites effected him. When Shamus woke up didn’t act like a fearless fighting machine, but more like a small child, babbling incoherent about coffee.
It’s morning. I hear a sound, a ticking noise..
Taking out my pacifier, I feel weird. I’m coughing, feel like shit… throwing up over Khadyr’s shoes. Now they look a lot better.
Finally, my coffee arrives.
I talked to Khadyr and we decided to ask Timon on the Modulator. At first the device and Timon could not answer our questions. His software was damaged. After a quick check i could see some “,” which were replaced. Nothing i could not fix. Then Timon could check Shamus and told us what is happening to Shamus.
Apparently Shamus was being repaired by the nanites. But the procedure could result in gibberish behaviour by the host. The danger was when there was nothing to repair. But that was not the main concern now. The sequence started by Timon would result in the death of all life on the base in 24 hours. And we already lost 12 hours. We had to move quickly. Timon asked us to leave him in Dhaab-2 to make sure the research could not be stolen. In exchange for our help to stop Jusuf he told us where to find three nannite grenades. This would kill all nannites in the vicinity…. and the host. So we have to be careful.
Shamus was infected but not seriously. We had to wait and see what effect the nannites had on him. Right now he was more like a baby than a fighting machine. Timon said that one of the effects could be that he saw no danger anymore.
Mozes drags me over the floor, back to the modulator. Oeehhh…. blue lights and sounds…. I get a craving for human flesh… I hear people talking, but don’t understand what they’re saying.
Blaadeeblaadeeblaa blaa…. Damn… the bastard takes my gun. Hmmm… still have another gun….hmmm…
Bla bla dee blaa… Why do they keep talking? He calls me a motherf… Bla bla… Shit? Hmmmm nosebugger…yummm!
Now they’re talking about auntie Sidonia and Soef Soef.
Timon also said that he Shanzidar sequence was again and would result in the death of everything living on the station within 24 hours. Because we slept through the first 12, we only had 12 hours left to get to safety. No time to waist. blizzard of no blizzard, we had to get tot Dhaab-1 and our shuttle to get u as far away as possible from this dead threat. We wanted to take Timon with us, but he convinced us to leave him behind on Dhaab 2. Before we left, he told us where we could find 3 nannite grenades. The nannite grenades, when fires, produced a cloud of some kind of dust that made the nannites inside the host go crazy, eventually killing themself but also the host. So we had to be carefull not to expose Shamus to this.
Sucky bunky, we’re going to the Sucky bunky.
Mozes tells me to come with him and to look at some machines.
I heard something about granates. Khadyr smiled and seemed happy. Don’t know why. Armand pushes me forward, I can smell coffee.

Scene 6 – Betrayal
To escape the raging storm outside our Misfits now decide to take the tunnen. Mozes says it will be a 1 to 2 hour walk, mostly depending on the behavior of Shamus.
We would go through the servicetunnels this time. Because every minute counted. The four of us started going through the tunnel to Dhaab 1. After an hour Moses told us about a service-tunnel. This could a way to sneak into Dhaab-1. We chose against this. Shamus was still not okay, but was showing signs of strange behaviour. The service-tunnel was very narrow and could lead to a panic attack. The walk down the tunnel was hard. Still the blizzard howled around us. It was very difficult to hear someone talking. Also the cold was becoming unbearable. It’s better to stay walking.
This time we took the tunnels to go back to Dhaab-1 this time. The weather outside was simply to bad to go by crawler. Besides Shamus was in no condition to drive. It would take us about an hour and a half before we would reach Dhaab-1. Moses said there was an alternative route through a service tunnel, but because we didn’t completely trusted Moses we decided to stay in the main tunnel.
It’s cold, windy and I see things floating. Oehhh… yellow snow…yumm. Slowly I take a lick, it tastes a bit tangy.
I can see a Yeti… It’s looking at me. A red Yeti? Mozes pulls me that way. He talks to a few people. When he looks at me, he starts laughing.
I’m being pushed forward again. Suddenly a door appears. Everybody is looking at it. It’s closed and they can’t open it.
When we reached the main entrance of Dhaab-1 we encountered 3 members of the Red Hyenas. The were walking towards us. We told Moses to talk to them to make sure the would not harm us. They were eager to get to Dhaab-2 saying it was annoy safe for them to go back. I told them that moving on to Dhaab-2 like signing a death sentence and that they should come with us. After some hasitation they decided to go back with us to Dhaab-1. When we reached the big entrance doors, we found out that he entry code had been changed by Jussuf. Even Armand was not ably to retrieve the new codes.
Luckily Moses told us about entry hatched which could be opened manually. The only problem was that we had to lift Shamus through the hatch. Together with Khadyr and Moses i succeeded to lift Shamus without our backs being broken. Finally we were close to our objective. But our troubles were just starting.
Suddenly I feel like being pushed through a sausage machine, darkness and a sudden silence. I’m following the holy guy.
Back at the Apex
Our heroes were once again standing in the Apex, in front of Captain Wada who looked concerned. She kept trying to establish contact with Aya on board the Mantella, but interference from the storm made it impossible.
Suddenly a communicator sparks to life. It’s set to Farras frequency. ”Come in, Far-ra”. Wada’s voice is curt. Silence. Static. Heavy breathing. Then a stifled whisper. Farra? “Traitor…”. Farra’s voice is strained and interrupted by a vulcan shot. Then there’s only static.
When we entered the controle room and there we saw captain Wada. She was talking franticly into the communicator. Trying to reach the Mantella, but no answer. She looked surprised when she saw us enter.
Oeehhh… a room full bright lights and touchie things.
Some guy is calling Mandela. But who is Mandela?
She was screaming into the communicator. Trying to reach the ship, Aya, Anyone. But got no reply. She looked surprised at us when suddenly the communicator cracked and we hear Jussuf’s voice. “TRAITOR!” he screamed before a loud gunshot and then rapid machinegun fire. It was a full on battle furtherup in the base. The Zeluba brigade decided to clean house. But why ?
A hard bang echoes through the room followed by machinegun fire.
Someone enters the room and points a gun at us… I feel wetness and it’s not my coffee.
Before he could act we shouted at him. What was going on, Who was betrayed, we are going to be dead in less than 10 hours… This last one was not true. The soldier told us the reactor in DHAAB-2 had been overloaded and we had 30 minutes to escape.
He told us that the Zaluba brigade was trying to take over the station. At the same time a console came to live and Captais Wada asked me to take a look at the message that was send.
Oh my god, the Shanzidar sequence was somehow accelerated and we had now not more that 30 minutes to get away from the station, or we all would be dead….
SCENE 7. THE PURGE
A console that was so far been dark suddenly jolted back to life. Captain Wada leans over the screen to study it closely. She frowns and looks up at Khadyr. “We’ve got a big problem.”
Her face is a tense mix of stress and determination. “Someone’s overloaded the reactor and activated a Shanzidar sequence. It’ll affect us in about 30 minutes.
Somewhere in the Apex in a corner, not seen by the other heroes, Mozes and Shamus are still together. Mozes is looking worried at Shamus.
…30….minutes…..dead…..go……leave….shuttle…go…..dead….minutes….30….go!…..go!…..
My knees buckle and I fall to the ground. Darkness comes over me. My brain burns…it hurts! Light flashes! My teeth are grinding…. A storm is coming…. I can feel it… Muscles rip and tear through my body.
FUCK THIS! I jump up, look around, I pull mozes to my face and spit him in his face.
“YES, YOU WIMPING MOTHERFUCKERS! PIECES OF SHIT! I’M HERE AND HERE TO STAY!! WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH”. Like King Kong, I’m drumming my longues and start laughing. Thoughts run through my brain. Thoughts….
